The gate is in the style of samurai dwelling and it was relocated by Terasawa, the lord of the first Karatsu clan about 400 years ago from Nagoya Castle in Nagoya, Karatsu City. It is one of the few samurai-style gates still existing in Karatsu and it is recognized as valuable since it retained the atmosphere of the Keicho era (1596–1614). Most of the gate stuffs were collected from different places in Japan and therefore, each of the verges of roofing tiles were differently designed.
